I Refuse!!

I came across this video on YouTube. It talks about one simple philosophy-  I Refuse!!  I just can’t define what it ignited inside me.

  1. I like the message (mostly). But rebellion can become conflated with believing in one’s self in much the same way that fear can become confused with respect. The courage to be one’s self is mostly to be found in wisdom and serenity.

      1. Apologies for the slow reply… sleep, and your invitation warrants a thoughtful response. Kept as brief as possible, real strength comes from within – determination of spirit as opposed to muscle, thoughtful action as opposed to flailing, enlightened focus on the meaningful as opposed to shouting. Refusal is merely a tool among many tools, a means that has to be used appropriately toward some meaningful end and without undermining yourself. Making a place for yourself in the creation of something worthwhile is always far more difficult than simply getting attention. It’s slow and resolute, deferring gratification, like spending years learning an instrument with which to make beautiful music. It’s a mostly quiet resolve to find a purpose, and then to pursue it in the knowledge that it’s worthy of the effort.

The starting point is finding that purpose, the instrument through which to express yourself. And statements like, “How people act with you is their Karma. How you react is yours…,” are the words of an Old Soul… the kinds of quiet understandings that can lead to one… and without refusal.

      2. Yeah. But, in this context, refusal meant refusal to one’s low self-esteem. Refusal to not settle for ordinary… The strength of your spirit can be determined by the fact that you can do and feel and say your gut feeling.

      3. In the context of refusing to bow before low self expectation, I agree with you entirely. Far too many people underestimate themselves. Perhaps it’s just the way the message was delivered, and maybe a cultural difference… it came across to me as so much posturing. It’s one thing to shout that “I am a valuable person!” to others, and another to believe it. Passion and anger are different things. One provides warmth — the other, ashes.
